My Mindful Medicine: “Who Am I Now?”

Reimagining a course on the transition to life after sports

This is a prototype, a sample I created to show what working together could look like.

I connected with Theresa Kulikowski-Gillespie, a 1996 U.S. Olympic Team alternate and former University of Utah gymnast, through an unexpected place: an Instagram comment thread about the difficult transition out of gymnastics. I had mentioned wanting to create training on that topic, something I care about deeply as a former gymnast myself. Theresa replied that she had already built a course on it, "Who Am I Now?", and asked if I wanted to collaborate. I said yes immediately.

Collaborator: Theresa Kulikowski-Gillespie
Source: One of the four modules in her Kajabi course
Format: Storyline prototype with new visuals
Status: Prototype
Tools: Premiere Pro, Adobe Express, Storyline 360

Where the course started

Strong content, ready for a new design.

Theresa had already created the full course in Kajabi, with narrated video over simple slides, a few knowledge checks, and thoughtful reflection prompts for journaling. The content was strong, and she wanted to raise the course's professional design with more engaging visuals, stronger accessibility, and possible interactivity.

What I built

New visuals and three interactive elements for one module.

Working from one of her four modules, I separated her narration from her original video in Premiere Pro, sourced supporting stock footage and imagery, and built new, more dynamic visuals in Adobe Express to pair with her voice throughout. I also prototyped three original interactive elements in Storyline: a short scenario that reinforces a key concept, text-entry reflection questions, and a slide with clickable markers that reveal more detail through both text and Theresa's own narration.

A note before you explore: because this is a prototype, the narration mixes Theresa's recorded voice with my own, filling in the pieces we had not recorded together yet.

Taking it further

A prototype with room to grow.

Theresa liked the direction. When we last discussed the project, she was leaning toward keeping the course simple instead of fully interactive, and she was focusing on another course. If we move forward, I would help her build out full interactivity, broaden the course's reach beyond gymnasts to other early-peak, early-retirement sports, and explore a hybrid format that pairs the self-paced content with live, Theresa-led discussion.
